Alicante city has a growing English-speaking community, from people working in the city to owners of apartments by the beaches at San Juan and the Albufereta, and the airport just down the road makes it easy to come and go.
Most people live in flats: in the centre, in the newer blocks along Playa de San Juan, and around the Albufereta. Cabo de las Huertas and Vistahermosa have detached houses with gardens, which need the garden-side doors covering as well.
Neighbourhoods
Where we install in Alicante
Every part of Alicante is covered. These are the areas we are asked about most, and what the homes there are usually like.
City centre
Flats in older and newer buildings around the Rambla, the Explanada and the streets below Santa Bárbara castle.
Playa de San Juan
The long beach north of the city, lined with modern apartment blocks, many with communal pools and some used as second homes.
Albufereta
Between the centre and San Juan, with apartment buildings by a small beach and quieter residential streets behind it.
Cabo de las Huertas
The headland between the Albufereta and San Juan, with detached houses, small coves and some of the city’s most sought-after homes.
Vistahermosa
A residential area of detached and semi-detached houses with gardens, popular with families.
Benalúa and El Pla
Central neighbourhoods with apartment blocks where people live and work all year.
The right set-up
The right alarm system for your home in Alicante
The free survey decides the final kit, but this is what we usually fit in Alicante, depending on the kind of home.
Apartments
A city or San Juan flat is covered by the Kit Tranquilidad: entrance door, camera detectors, keypad and siren, with a sensor on any terrace or window within reach.
Townhouses
Terraced and semi-detached houses usually have front and garden doors and a roof terrace. Each gets a sensor, and a camera detector watches the main living area.
Houses with gardens
Detached houses in Cabo de las Huertas or Vistahermosa are best with the Plus kit and an outdoor detector, so the alert comes while someone is still in the garden.
Local advice
Three things that help in Alicante
Beach flats used in summer
A flat in San Juan that is busy in August can be empty from October to May. Keep it armed and check it from the app.
Houses with gardens
An outdoor detector warns before anyone reaches a door, and every door to the garden gets its own sensor.
Short trips
With the airport close by, many owners come for long weekends. Arm the alarm from your phone on the way to the airport.
Local guide
Protecting a home in Alicante: what we have learned
In Alicante we protect two quite different kinds of home: city flats where people live all year, and beach apartments in San Juan or the Albufereta that are busy in summer and empty for much of the winter. A third group, the detached houses on Cabo de las Huertas and in Vistahermosa, need a little more because of their gardens.
For a city flat, the entrance door is the main way in, so the Kit Tranquilidad covers most needs. For a beach flat, the terrace and the months of absence matter more: arm it when you leave in September and check it from the app until you come back. For houses with gardens, an outdoor detector gives the alert before anyone reaches a door.
Because Segurma has an office in Alicante and the airport is so close, installation is easy to arrange around a short visit. Tell us your dates when you ask for a quote and we will try to fit it in while you are here.
If you work in the city and travel often, the app is what you will use most. Arm the alarm as you leave for the airport, check its status from wherever you are, and disarm it for a neighbour who is watering the plants. Every arming, disarming and alert appears in the app with the time, so you always know what has happened at home while you were away, and who was there.
The keypad goes just inside the door you use most. A tag or the app does the rest.
Living with an alarm in Alicante
Through the year, and when nobody is home
Through the year in Alicante
Alicante is a working city, so most homes are lived in all year. The exception is the beach flats in San Juan and the Albufereta, which are busy in summer and often empty from autumn to spring, and city flats left for long trips back to the UK. Those are the months when a monitored alarm matters most.
Squatters
Empty beach apartments and city flats left for long periods are both at risk from squatters. In Spain, if the police are alerted while someone is breaking in, they can act on the spot; once people have moved in, getting them out usually means going to court. A camera-verified alarm makes sure the alert goes out while it is still happening.
Getting it installed
Alicante-Elche airport is about 20 minutes from the city, and Segurma has an office in Alicante. If you are away, a neighbour or family member can let the technician in. Installation is usually arranged within 1 to 5 days of signing up.
How it protects you
If a burglar breaks into your home in Alicante
The same thing happens whether you are asleep in the UK or at the beach down the road.
1
A sensor is triggered
A door opens or a camera detector picks up movement, and the images go to Segurma’s monitoring centre.
2
A person checks
An operator looks at the images before anyone is called, so false alarms do not send the police to your door.
3
The police are alerted
With the images as evidence: a report from a licensed security company, not a vague call from a neighbour.
4
You are told at once
The alert reaches your phone wherever you are, and the siren lets the intruder know they have been seen.
While you are away
Peace of mind in Alicante, wherever you are
Home security in Alicante has one week of the year all to itself, and it falls at the end of June. Picture your flat in Benalúa, a few streets from one of the hogueras, while you are in Bristol for a family wedding and the city stays out until dawn with bonfires, brass bands and firecrackers. Pepa, your cat, has stayed behind. The neighbour across the landing, a retired teacher who has lived in Benalúa all her life, has a tag and comes in each evening to fill her bowl and change the litter, and at the free survey the detectors were placed with Pepa in mind, so she has the run of the flat.
On the night of the cremà, when the bonfires go up all over the city, a rocket bursts just outside the balcony and Pepa shoots across the hall. Your phone buzzes in the middle of the wedding disco. At Segurma’s Alarm Receiving Centre an operator is looking at the images and listening to the sound: a cat, bangs from the street, nobody else in the flat. Nobody is sent. You step outside, open the IP camera you added at the survey, see Pepa flattened under the sofa with her ears back, and go back in for the last dances.
Now picture the other version of that night. With the whole of Alicante in the streets and firecrackers going off below every balcony, nobody in your building would hear a door being forced, and a flat with its shutters down right through the fiestas is easy to spot. The noise makes no difference to the operator. A person in your hall instead of a cat, and the police are alerted with the images while you follow it on your phone from the hotel. As it is, the next morning your neighbour comes in at the usual time, feeds Pepa, sweeps the ash off the balcony and sends you a photo of both.
For people who live in Alicante all year, that is what the alarm is really for: the few weeks when the flat has to look after itself. The rest of the time it asks almost nothing of you: a touch of the tag by the door on the way to work and an app you mostly forget is on your phone. When owners compare Alicante alarm systems, they tend to look at the equipment. What counts in a week like Hogueras is that the decision about your home is taken by someone who has seen and heard what is going on, not by a neighbour guessing whether that last bang was another firecracker. So you can enjoy the wedding in Bristol, and Benalúa can have its fiesta without you.
The home in Alicante on your phone: armed, disarmed or an alert, as it happens.
Yes, Segurma has an office in Alicante. We handle your quote and questions in English, and Segurma’s own technicians do the installation.
Do you install in Playa de San Juan and Cabo de las Huertas?
Yes, all over Alicante city. Postcodes start with 030; put yours in the form and we confirm it.
Can it be fitted around a short trip?
Installation is usually arranged within 1 to 5 days of signing up. Tell us your dates and we try to fit it in while you are here.
Do you also protect shops and offices in Alicante?
Yes. The business kit costs €24.90 + VAT for the first 12 months, with a panic button instead of the remote, on a 36-month term.
I live in an old building in the centre. Is that a problem?
No. The standard Segurma kit is wireless, so it goes in without chasing cables through the walls.
Can I keep the alarm on while I’m in the flat?
Yes. You can arm it at night while you are at home and leave it fully armed when you travel.
Do I need to be in Spain for the installation?
Someone needs to be at the property to let the technician in and be shown how the system works: you, a family member or someone you trust. If you'd rather be there yourself, we'll fit the date around your next trip.
Who installs and monitors the alarm?
Segurma, a Spanish security company founded in 1986 and listed in the Ministry of the Interior's National Private Security Register under no. 3082. Its own technicians install the system and its own Alarm Receiving Centre watches over it 24 hours a day.
