Barcelona & the Garraf coast

Homes in Barcelona or on the Garraf coast, and how we protect them

Barcelona flats are usually entered through the front door or a balcony on the lower floors, so those are the first things the survey covers. In Sitges and Castelldefels, houses and holiday flats often sit empty out of season.

In much of Catalonia the installation is often done within a day or two of signing up.

How we protect you

Home security in Barcelona or on the Garraf coast: how we protect you

Home security in Barcelona starts with the building. Many English speakers in the city live in flats in the Eixample, Gràcia or Sant Gervasi: a street door, a shared staircase, then your own door, with a long corridor inside and a gallery over the inner courtyard at the back. Outside the city the homes open up. Sant Cugat has terraced and detached houses with gardens, popular with international families. Along the coast there are flats a street back from the beach in Sitges, houses among the pines in Castelldefels and Gavà Mar, and hillside homes in the Maresme, around Cabrils, Alella and Arenys de Mar. Each needs a different plan, and the free survey draws it up.

In an Eixample flat, sensors go on the door from the landing and on the glass doors to the rear gallery, and a camera detector covers the corridor that every room opens onto. In a house in Sant Cugat or Alella, every door onto the garden gets a sensor, and an outdoor detector can watch the lawn or the pool. When something trips, the camera detectors send images and sound to Segurma’s Alarm Receiving Centre, and a person there watches them before deciding who, if anyone, to call. A real intrusion goes to the police with those pictures as proof, the siren in the flat starts up, and the alert reaches your phone, whether you are on the beach in Castelldefels or in a meeting in London. If it was your cleaner letting themselves into the flat in Gràcia, nobody is sent.

The app goes wherever you go. You arm the flat from the taxi to El Prat, check alerts from London or a work trip, and with the Kit Tranquilidad Plus watch the IP camera live. If the cleaner comes on Thursdays while you are away, you disarm for them from the app and arm again when they leave. The control panel connects over the internet and over the 4G/5G mobile network, with a backup battery, so street works that cut the building’s fibre, or a summer storm that knocks out the power in Sitges, don’t leave your home unwatched.

That is what a monitored alarm in Barcelona should do: 24/7 monitoring by people who check before they call, an alarm connected to the police with the images as evidence, and an alert on your phone wherever you are. You can lock the door in Sant Gervasi, or close up the house in Sitges at the end of the summer, and get on with your trip knowing that someone else is keeping watch.

Your kind of home

Alarms for apartments, townhouses and villas in Barcelona or on the Garraf coast

The free survey sets the final kit. This is what we usually fit here, depending on the home.

  • City flats in the Eixample, Gràcia and Sant Gervasi

Flats in the Eixample and Gràcia tend to be long and narrow: a door from the landing, a corridor through the middle and glass doors at each end, onto a street balcony and a gallery over the inner courtyard. We put sensors on the entrance and the gallery doors, a camera detector in the corridor and another in the living room, and the keypad by the door. The Kit Tranquilidad covers most flats. On the principal and the lower floors, extra door or window sensors for each balcony are the usual addition.

  • Family houses in Sant Cugat and the Maresme

International families in Sant Cugat, and many in Cabrils and Alella, live in terraced or detached houses with a garden, a garage that opens into the house and bedrooms upstairs. Each door onto the garden and from the garage gets a sensor, camera detectors cover the living area and the stairs, and the 3 tags go to the people who come and go: older children, the cleaner, a nanny. The Kit Tranquilidad Plus lets you look in from the app while you travel, and an outdoor detector watches the garden.

  • Beach homes from Gavà Mar to Sitges

In Sitges, homes range from flats a street back from the seafront to townhouses in the old centre, while Castelldefels and Gavà Mar have houses with gardens among the pines behind the beach. Many are used in summer and at weekends. We put sensors on the terrace and garden doors, camera detectors in the main rooms and the IP camera of the Kit Tranquilidad Plus facing the terrace, so you can check the house from the city. An outdoor detector by the pool and a smoke detector are common extras.

When nobody is there

Holiday homes, empty months and squatters in Barcelona or on the Garraf coast

Barcelona province empties in two different ways. The coast fills up from June to September and at weekends, then the flats in Sitges and the houses in Castelldefels, Gavà Mar or Arenys de Mar sit shut through autumn and winter, often with nobody nearby who would notice a forced shutter. The city empties the other way round: the Eixample and Gràcia go quiet in August, and families in Sant Cugat lock up for the school holidays and trips home. A flat with the same shutters closed for weeks, or a beach house with no car outside in February, is what burglars and squatters watch for. Once squatters have settled in, removing them usually means a court case and months.

A monitored alarm changes what happens in that window. If someone forces the garden door of a house in Gavà Mar on a winter night, the images are checked at the centre and passed to the police while that person is still inside, which is when the police can still do something about it. You get the alert at the same moment. That is second home security that works whether you are in the city or abroad. Leave a tag with the neighbour across the landing, the building’s porter or the agency that looks after your Sitges flat, and the app shows you each time they come in.

Price

What a monitored alarm costs in Barcelona or on the Garraf coast

In Barcelona and along the coast you pay €24.90 a month for the first 12 months, then €43.90 a month for the Kit Tranquilidad or €49.90 for the Kit Tranquilidad Plus, VAT included. Equipment and installation are part of that fee. The minimum term for homes is 24 months. For most Eixample and Gràcia flats the Kit Tranquilidad is enough; a house with a garden in Sant Cugat or Castelldefels is more likely to need the Plus and an outdoor detector. Any extras are added to the monthly fee and shown in the written quote you get after the survey.

Questions

What owners in Barcelona or on the Garraf coast ask us

Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp, in English.

Can I have an alarm in a rented flat?

Yes, with your landlord’s agreement. The standard kit is wireless, so there is no building work.

I live on a high floor. Is an alarm worth it?

On high floors the front door is usually the way in, so a door sensor and a camera detector in the hall are what matter. The survey decides the rest.

How quickly can it be installed?

In much of Catalonia it is often a day or two after signing up.

Kit Tranquilidad or Plus: which is better for a flat in Barcelona?

If you live in the flat most of the year, the Kit Tranquilidad usually does the job: control panel, 2 camera detectors, a motion detector, a door or window sensor, keypad, indoor siren, 3 tags and a remote. If you travel a lot, the Plus adds an IP camera with audio for live view and an extra door or window sensor, handy in an Eixample flat with glass doors at both ends. The free survey settles it.

Is an outdoor alarm worth it for a house in Sant Cugat or the Maresme?

For a house with a garden, often yes. An outdoor detector, added for a monthly fee, watches the garden, the pool or the side of the house, so the alert comes before anyone reaches a door or window. In Sant Cugat, Cabrils or Alella, where many gardens back onto woodland or open hillside, that early warning matters. Indoors, the camera detectors still capture the images the operator checks. The survey decides how many you need and where.

We have a cat in our flat in Gràcia. Will it set the alarm off?

Tell us about the cat at the free survey and the detectors are placed with it in mind. In a Gràcia flat, that means thinking about the shelves and sofa backs a cat likes to climb, and the corridor it patrols at night. And because the operator at the Alarm Receiving Centre checks the camera images before calling anyone, if it was the cat, nobody is sent. You still see the alert in the app.

Do I need to be in Spain for the installation?

Someone needs to be at the property to let the technician in and be shown how the system works: you, a family member or someone you trust. If you'd rather be there yourself, we'll fit the date around your next trip.

Who installs and monitors the alarm?

Segurma, a Spanish security company founded in 1986 and listed in the Ministry of the Interior's National Private Security Register under no. 3082. Its own technicians install the system and its own Alarm Receiving Centre watches over it 24 hours a day.
