Costa Daurada

Homes on the Costa Daurada, and how we protect them

Many of these homes are busy in July and August and quiet for the rest of the year, which is when a monitored alarm matters most.

Segurma has an office in Tarragona, and in much of Catalonia the installation is often done within a day or two of signing up.

Most break-ins in holiday homes happen when nobody is there. That is the moment a monitored alarm is for.

How we protect you

Home security on the Costa Daurada: how we protect you

Home security on the Costa Daurada depends on which stretch of coast your home is on. In Salou and La Pineda, apartments in tall blocks near the beach are let to families on PortAventura holidays in summer and stay shut for much of the winter. Cambrils, Altafulla and Calafell have more townhouses, and more people who live in them all year. Further south, villas on bigger plots in Miami Platja, around the coves of L’Ametlla de Mar and at L’Ampolla on the edge of the Ebro delta are further from their neighbours and, out of season, can go weeks without a car in the drive.

From a Salou apartment to a villa in L’Ampolla, the alarm reacts in the same way. Say someone forces the side window of a villa in Miami Platja on a November night, with the rest of the urbanisation dark. The window sensor reacts, the camera detector in that room records images and sound, and those go straight to an operator at Segurma’s Alarm Receiving Centre, who looks before anyone is phoned. When it is a real intrusion, the operator rings the police with the images ready to show them, the siren in the apartment goes off, and the alert reaches you in Edinburgh, Utrecht or wherever you happen to be. If it was your cleaner from Cambrils turning up a day early, nobody is sent.

The app keeps you in charge from a distance: if you leave the villa in L’Ampolla in a hurry and forget to set the alarm, you can arm it from the departure lounge at Reus, and with the Kit Tranquilidad Plus you can look at the living room in Cambrils live after a storm has gone through. The control panel connects over the internet and the 4G/5G mobile network and has a backup battery, so a power cut in a late-summer storm over Salou or a fibre outage in an urbanisation above L’Ametlla de Mar does not leave the house unwatched.

That is what lets you stop worrying from October to June. A monitored alarm with 24/7 monitoring means someone checks the images and alerts the police for the apartment in Salou or the villa in L’Ampolla while you are back in the UK, so second home security on this coast stops depending on a neighbour. Nobody in Cambrils has to walk round and check the shutters after every storm, and you will not discover a break-in when you open the front door next summer.

Your kind of home

Alarms for apartments, townhouses and villas on the Costa Daurada

The free survey sets the final kit. This is what we usually fit here, depending on the home.

  • Apartments in Salou, La Pineda and Cambrils

Apartments in Salou, La Pineda and Cambrils are mostly in blocks with a shared pool and garden, and many are let to holidaymakers for part of the summer. We protect the entrance door and the terrace door, which on the first floor around Cap Salou or in La Pineda can often be reached from the garden. The Kit Tranquilidad does the job: a sensor on the entrance, an extra one at €1 a month on the terrace, camera detectors in the hall and living room, the keypad and the siren. Ground-floor apartments add sensors on any window within reach.

  • Townhouses in Cambrils, Calafell and Altafulla

Townhouses in Vilafortuny, Segur de Calafell and the streets below the old town of Altafulla usually have a small front garden, a back patio and often a roof terrace. We put sensors on the front door, the patio door and the door to the terrace, two of them as extras at €1 a month, and camera detectors on the ground floor and the landing. The Kit Tranquilidad covers most of them. If you spend most of the year in the UK, the Plus adds the IP camera so you can look in on the house between visits.

  • Villas in Miami Platja, L’Ametlla and L’Ampolla

Villas on the hillside urbanisations of Miami Platja, around the coves and the marina at Calafat in L’Ametlla de Mar, and on the edge of the Ebro delta near L’Ampolla sit on bigger plots, usually with a pool and a gate onto a quiet road. We fit the Kit Tranquilidad Plus, with its two door or window sensors, extra ones at €1 a month for the other doors, and camera detectors on each floor. An outdoor detector at €6 a month watches the garden, and a second IP camera at €6 suits a villa with a guest annexe.

When nobody is there

Holiday homes, empty months and squatters on the Costa Daurada

On the Costa Daurada the season has a hard edge. From June to September Salou, La Pineda and Cambrils are full; then many apartment blocks pull their shutters down until Easter, and plenty of the neighbours, from Barcelona, Lleida or Zaragoza, only come back in summer. Out at Miami Platja and L’Ampolla, villas can stand empty through the whole winter with nobody passing the gate for days at a time. That quiet is the risk: a door forced in an empty block in Salou in January can go unnoticed for weeks, which is exactly the kind of chance squatters wait for.

An alarm watched around the clock changes that, because the police know while the break-in is happening, not weeks later. If squatters do manage to settle into an apartment in Cambrils, you are looking at a court case and a long wait. Give a tag to the neighbour who lives in Altafulla all year, or to the person who checks your villa in L’Ametlla de Mar after a storm, and the app tells you each time they let themselves in. In Salou, the deterrent sign by your door also tells anyone trying handles along the landing that this flat is watched.

Price

What a monitored alarm costs on the Costa Daurada

On the Costa Daurada you start at €24.90 a month for the first 12 months. Most apartments in Salou, La Pineda and Cambrils then stay on the Kit Tranquilidad at €43.90, since the standard kit and one extra sensor for the terrace cover a flat of that size. Villas in Miami Platja, L’Ametlla de Mar and L’Ampolla usually move to the Kit Tranquilidad Plus at €49.90, often with an outdoor detector for the garden, because owners want to look in on them all winter. Every figure includes VAT, equipment and installation, and the minimum term is 24 months.

Questions

What owners on the Costa Daurada ask us

Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp, in English.

Is there a Segurma office near the Costa Daurada?

Yes, Segurma has an office in Tarragona. We look after you in English and Segurma’s technicians do the installation.

I let the apartment in summer. Can guests use the alarm?

Most owners simply disarm it from the app while guests are in and arm it again when they leave. A property manager can also have a tag.

How soon can it be installed?

In much of Catalonia it is often a day or two after signing up.

Do I need an alarm if my apartment in Salou is in a gated complex?

A gate and a shared pool keep casual visitors out in August, but in January, when most of a complex in Salou or La Pineda is shuttered, nobody is watching your terrace door. The gate only slows people down; the alarm watches your own apartment. If someone gets in, an operator checks the images from the camera detectors and the police are alerted while it is still happening, even with the rest of the block empty.

We live in Cambrils all year with two cats. Can the alarm stay on when we go out?

Yes. Tell us about the cats at the free survey and the technician places the detectors with them in mind, so a cat asleep on the sofa in your Cambrils living room is not treated as a burglar. If one of them does set something off while you are in Tarragona for the day, the operator at the Alarm Receiving Centre sees it on the images first, and nobody is sent.

Can I add a smoke detector to the apartment I let in Salou?

Yes, for €2.50 a month. It joins the same alarm, so if it goes off you get the alert on your phone like any other. In an apartment in Salou or La Pineda that has guests cooking in the kitchen all summer and then stands closed from October, it is one of the most sensible extras to ask for at the free survey.

Do I need to be in Spain for the installation?

Someone needs to be at the property to let the technician in and be shown how the system works: you, a family member or someone you trust. If you'd rather be there yourself, we'll fit the date around your next trip.

Who installs and monitors the alarm?

Segurma, a Spanish security company founded in 1986 and listed in the Ministry of the Interior's National Private Security Register under no. 3082. Its own technicians install the system and its own Alarm Receiving Centre watches over it 24 hours a day.
